The Spectator is at the Center at Nokia Arena

Piiroinen supplied the 13,000-seat grandstand for Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland.

Serving as the home arena for Tampere’s ice hockey league teams, Tappara and Ilves, as well as the main venue for the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship, the arena offers not only top-level ice hockey but also a wide range of events. This requires the seating area to be adaptable to different usage situations and needs. At the new multifunctional arena, the spectator is at the center.

Nokia Arena

Located in the Kansi area of downtown Tampere, Nokia Arena is a next-generation experience center that has ushered in a new era of live events. With up to 15,000 spectator seats, a world-class hotel, an international casino, versatile event spaces, and numerous restaurants, the arena offers a uniquely unforgettable event experience unlike any other.

“Events, seating, and spectators form the core of the arena. We aim to provide Finland’s best customer experience in this regard as well, and we are delighted that a high-quality domestic supplier was chosen for the seating. Piiroinen’s tribunes and seats are adaptable for different events, ensuring enjoyable moments for spectators – even when they can’t stay seated from all the excitement.”

Nokia Arena Seating

Nokia Arena’s grandstand features Piiroinen’s AP 19 and AP 20 seats, which are perfectly suited for adaptable telescopic tribunes thanks to their effortless beam-mounting system.

The seats are fully upholstered and can be customized to fit the space and specific preferences. Their folding mechanism operates silently due to the counterweight system.

Telescopic tribunes enable versatile events

The delivery includes automated telescopic tribunes, some of which can be converted into standing sections when needed. These easily retractable and extendable telescopic tribunes operate in sections, allowing the arena to host a variety of events, from ice hockey games to concerts and trade shows.

The seating was developed with input from users and the arena’s requirements. There are three different seat models, all designed with comfort, functionality, and maintainability in mind. Fixed seats are attached using a rail system, enabling easy removal or seat spacing adjustments.

“The design and manufacturing of our products take place at our factory in Salo, from where they are shipped worldwide for demanding use. We have delivered large grandstands for both indoor and outdoor arenas, refining our product development to the highest level. We are proud to be part of bringing Nokia Arena to life and contributing to Finland’s best spectator experience.”
